Nelson Nolan Isenhower, M.D. Biography

Born in 1948 in Newton, NC Nelson’s Undergraduate education was at Wake Forest University with BS in Physics graduating in 1970. Medical School was at Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, graduating in 1974. His Internship and Anesthesiology Residency were at Walter Reed Army Medical Center completing in 1978. He joined the Teaching staff and later became Chief of Anesthesia and Operative Services at Brooke Army Medical Center finishing in 1983.
In 1983 he joined Winchester Anesthesiologists and Winchester Memorial Hospital (now Winchester Medial Center). Numerous positions were held over the years including President of the Medical Staff and Medical Director Surgi-Center of Winchester. He retired from medical practice in May 2009. He was privileged to serve on 3 medical mission trips. Thru the Methodist Church he served on a team to Chicuque, Mozambique, Africa, on two occasions. Also, thru the Virginia Baptist he served on a medical mission team to northwestern rural China in the Gansu region.
He has volunteered on several non-profit organizations: the Free Medical Clinic, many school functions, and on boards including Winchester Musica Viva, Faith in Action (Wheels for Wellness), Shenandoah Fellowship Foundation and Hunting Ridge Retreat. Our family was active at First Baptist Church holding various positions. Married Sue Wilson in 1976 and have two children who grew up in Frederick County Public Schools. Our daughter is in Family Practice in Bangor, ME with two children and our son practices Anesthesia in Richmond, VA with three children.
